Carol we will miss you

By Larry Eaton

Carol Thompson obituary

On January 19,2013 Carol Jean Thompson passed away after only 3 weeks from the time she became ill. Carol was the recording secretary for the BDA board and performed her duties very well for the 6 months she held that positon. Carol was always helpful and responsive the Board’s needs. Even though her primary responsibilities were to take care of Vienna Township’s business she alway found the time to provide the BDA Board what they needed in a timely manner.

Her death was a great shock and a significant lost to all of her co-workers and she will be missed.

Awards Galore!

By Larry Eaton

Park and ride entrance

Late in 2012 Keep Genesee County Beautiful, Inc. sent out applications for their 2012 awards.  This is similar to the Keep Michigan Beautiful awards where our Exit 131 beautification program earned second place but is limited to Genesee County  participants.

We submitted our application along with  relates photos as requested and I have been notified that our investment and effort has once again received recognition.   This time it is a First Place Award for Municipalities with actual presentation being made in March of 2013.

Whats Ahead in 2013?

By Larry Eaton

Here it is January 1, 2013, where does the time go?  As is my normal habit on January 1 of each new year I try to picture what is ahead for me and set a course to accomplish the challenges I see in the coming 12 months.

My concern is not only for the BDA, but includes other interests that I hold dear to me and am responsible for in one degree or another.   But for the moment I will focus on the first quarter of 2013 as it pertains to the BDA board.

Linden Road Lighting update

By Larry Eaton

Paving of the bike path and light pole foundations

Construction proceeds

It was our goal to  have the construction portion of this project done by now but there has been a delay in receiving the light poles  until  January 29th, 2013.  Our contractor says that it will take  less  than two days to  finish  construction once our poles arrive and we can turn the lights on in the West Side Business District.

It would have been great to have the lights completed for the holidays  season this year but I guess the old adage “The best laid plans of mice and men are soon to go asunder” is still alive and well is the 21st century.  Even so, once the project is complete I believe the value to our residents,   patrons and merchants will be evident during the short winter days ahead.
